New Heart Diagnostic Devise
April 20, 2014 10:33

Siberian innovative company, founded with the participation of the Tomsk Polytechnic University, developed a pocket ECG able to diagnose the heart as simple as to measure the pressure or temperature.

Chief developer Alexander Uvarov told described the new devise. "The number of patients with cardiovascular system diseases is constantly growing, but diagnostic capabilities of the clinics are limited. In Russia there are several similar projects, but they are very poorly implemented. Our device will be particularly useful in the recovery period: after suffering an illness or surgery," Uvarov said.

To make a cardiogram it is enough to apply fingers to the built-in electrodes on a box a bit larger than a smartphone. The result is stored on a flash card. It can be sent to the doctor by computer. They plan to make ECG report transmission automatic. In addition, they consider the possibility of creating special software for physicians, by which they can view the results of a survey of all their patients and maintain medical records. Uvarov estimates the device cost about 5 thousand rubles.

Currently the functions of the portable cardiograph are tested at the Institute of Cardiology, Siberian Branch of the Academy of Medical Sciences (Tomsk). The next step will be the preparation of production prototype, certification and licensing. Institute of Cardiology will be the first contractor. Pocket cardiograph was presented Wednesday at the engineering fair for young scientists as part of U-NOVUS forum, which was held in Tomsk in April.
