Biopaper for Printing Human Innards is Around the Corner
May 25, 2016 18:30

Theoretical and Experimental Biophysics Institute, RAS in Pushchino has started development of biological paper, which will be used for printing  alive inner parts of a human body and  transplanting them, the official website of the science town administration reports.

Ten scientific laboratories from around the world are participating in the revolutionary development. By the way, the bioprinter that will print innards is presently under way in Skolkovo.  The groundbreaking method of bioprinting has technology similar to ordinary printing. There are also jet technologies that use cellular steroids instead of ink and place them in a particular order to create a biological structure or a human organ.

There is also a laser technology of printing innards that transfers an individual cell to a substrate by means of a special laser. In this case, suitable microenvironment is needed for the cells to remain alive under printing manipulations. This is what scientists call biopaper and are presently working on.
