Russia plans to carry out one to two launches of the manned spacecraft Federation to the Moon annually from 2025.
The news was reported to TASS by TsNIIMash, the main scientific research institute of the ROSCOSMOS state corporation .
"According to the Moon exploration program planned till 2040 one to two launches of the manned transport spacecraft of new generation will be made every year starting from 2025" - the press service informed.
The perspective Moon exploration program provides flights to the Moon, as well as their landing on the Moon surface, and their transportation to the libration point of the Earth - Moon system (i.e. the point of balance of two celestial bodies' gravitational forces).
TsNIIMash has reminded that testing of the new spacecrast will be started in 2021 with an unmanned launch from the Vostochny spaceport. Two launches of the vehicle - both in pilotless and piloted modes - are planned for 2023. The carrier rocket Angara-A5B with increased loading capacity will be used for the launches.
"The use of the carrier rocket Angara-A5B under the conditions of reduced financing will make it possible to implement the initial stage of the Moon piloted program, including the Moon circumnavigation in the unpiloted and piloted modes", - the Institute press service explained.
Earlier it was reported that for completing flight tests of the Federation four successful flights will be required, with at least two of them in the piloted mode, including one with the Moon circumnavigation.
The spacecraft engineered by the Rocket and Space Corporation Energia is intended for delivering people and freights to the Moon and to the space stations on the Earth orbit. The crew will consist of four to six people. The vehicle can be in an autonomous flight for up to 30 days, and up to 1 year as a part of a space station.
As the chief designer of Rocket and Space Corporation Energia, Evgeny Mikrin reported, development of the software and hardware for the spacecraft will be started this summer.
