Experts: Cancer Treatment without Chemotherapy Poisoning Strengthens Credibility of Russian Science
June 30, 2017 16:48

Deceased on May 12, 2017, Academician Anatoly Granov invented his own method of treating liver cancer through blood vessels, by using the property of a tumor to generate new blood vessels for its own blood supply. The method of treating cancer without chemotherapy poisoning was developed by Anatoly Granov (1932-2017) from St. Petersburg and strengthened the credibility of Russian science both in this country and around the world.

This was discussed by experts on the sidelines of the memorial section of the International Oncologists Forum “White Nights" (June 23-25). The scientist, who had founded and headed the Russian Scientific Center for Radiology and Surgical Technologies for many years, passed away on May 12, 2017.

To Overwit the Tumor
Anatoly Granov invented his own method of treating liver cancer through the vessels (endovascular way), by using the property of a tumor to generate additional vessels for its own blood supply.
Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vladimir Semiglazov, a friend and colleague of Anatoly Granov reported to TASS about it.
"He found out how to block the tumor affected liver by closing the bloodstream with intravascular effects and then injecting drugs that destroy the tumor in the same way, through the vessels, for example, through the femoral artery," – the scientist explained.
As a result, aggressive chemotherapeutic drugs acted pointwise, without spreading through the body and without poisoning it. This process was named chemoembolization.
As Vladimir Semiglazov noted, the cancer tumor, wherever it appeared in the human body, "loves to metastasize" into the liver, which leads to inevitable death, as this is the only life-giving unpaired organ, and its target leison has irreversible consequences.
"If a bone is affected by a tumor, you can support the patient's life for a long time, but if it the liver then you cannot, because the vital activity of the organism in general is disturbed," - he said.
Having released liver from cancer metastases, Anatoly Granov then applied other methods to treat the tumor in those organs where it originated.

When the Remedy is Worse than the Disease

Chemotherapy drugs, while fighting the tumor, are at the same time debilitating to the body. Under the influence of their toxins, the hematopoiesis process in the bone marrow slows down and immunity decreases. Academician Anatoly Granov contrived to break the vicious circle and patented his method not only in Russia, but also in North America and Europe. His method enabled doctors to save thousands of people’s lives around the world and raised the prestige of the Russian science.

Fundamental Science in Service of Oncology

Other breakthrough methods introduced by Anatoly Granov involve using achievements of fundamental science for the purposes of oncology treatment. He designed stereotactic devices to destroy a brain or lung tumor with a directed beam.
"Here you can draw a parallel with a missile homing in on the target: the human body, and especially the lungs, are continuously moving. Therefore, when directing a beam to the tumor site, there is always a risk to miss the target and damage healthy tissues. The device made it possible to adjust the beam to the movement of a particular organ”, Dr. Semiglazov explained.
He noted that Academician Anatoly Granov extensively used the latest achievements of physics, chemistry, and electronics for practical surgery and therapy. "He was the creator of a new direction in medical science - translational medicine," – Dr. Semiglazov believes.
