Moscow Power Engineering Institute (Technical University)

Training of foreign students at MPEI (TU) started in 1946. More than 4000 citizens of 85 countries have received Diplomas of Engineer, Bachelor and Master of Science. Many of MPEI (TU) graduates have occupied responsible post in their countries: Ion Iliesku, the President of Romania, Li Peng, the former Prime-minister of China, Sadovyn Bathuag, the Minister of Fuel and Power industry of Mongolia, Makala Samuel, the Minister of Power industry of Tanzania, Hussein Sarhan Sbeikh, the Rector of the Polytechnic University of Hoson, Jordan and many others.

Since 1995 MPEI provides training in English for the specialty "Computer Science and Informatics". This program covers both Bachelor and Master courses. Since 1999 MPEI has been graduating Bachelors in this field of study every year, and in 2001 the first Masters of Science in the field of "Computer Science and Informatics" were graduated.
Training is carried out totally in English starting from the 1st semester, so foreign citizens don’t have to spend one year at the Preliminary faculty while learning Russian language. Nevertheless, the students of this program "Computer Science in English" are studying Russian language from the very beginning as one the most important subjects for those, who live in Russian-speaking environment.

Admission

All foreign citizens entering MPEI are divided into the following categories:

  1. Foreign citizens entering MPEI Preliminary faculty on payment basis.
  2. Foreign citizens entering MPEI under government support (their training is paid from budget funds of Russian Federation).
  3. Foreign citizens entering on payment basis the first or the subsequent years of MPEI with training in Russian.
  4. Foreign citizens entering on payment basis the first or the subsequent years of MPEI with training in foreign languages.
  5. Foreign citizens who enter MPEI for study at the third level of education (Master or Specialist) and posses Diploma of the Bachelor obtained in another institution of higher education in Russia or at home.

Accommodation

Contract students live in a hostel for contract students. The hostel consists of 2-room blocks (12 sq.m. and 18 sq.m.). Large room is 3-bed room for first and second year students and 2-bed room for senior students, small room is 2-bed room. There are a bathroom and a toilet in each block. The common kitchen is situated in the corridor. Student pays the accommodation fee about 35 USD per month.
