Tomsk scientists created a power plant for charging gadgets in the forest. The development is a stove that can burn usual firewood, wood chips, sawdust, coals, peat and even sunflower husk.
The industrialists and scientists of the Tomsk University created a small-sized power plant producing cheap energy and not emitting harmful substances to the atmosphere, you can even use it for charging gadgets in the woods, the press-service of innovation organizations in Tomsk Oblast reported on Friday.
The development created with the participation of the scientists from Tomsk University of Control Systems and Radio Electronics (TUSUR) is a stove one cubic meter in size. It is possible to burn usual firewood, wood chips, sawdust, coals, peat and even sunflower husk in this stove. Fuel combustion generates gas which runs the engine.
“Such power plants already exist around the world, but the majority of them have a disadvantage: the gas produced in the combustion of wood and sawdust contains a lot of impurities and resins depositing on the engine mechanisms, and this gas burns very quickly. The development of the Tomsk scientists uses their know-how of getting purer synthesis gas. Moreover, this plant will not emit harmful substances” - the statement says.
The scientists of TUSUR ensured smooth operation of the plant by installing the controller. Such plants will be used, for example, by mobile teams picking berries, pine cones and mushrooms in the forest - the equipment can be put in the car and used for charging phones, drying clothes, powering freezers for freeze quenching.
It is noted in the statement that the main advantage over its alternatives is the low cost of the generated power: the cost of 1 kWh is 2-12 roubles depending on the cost of fuel, while such price for a diesel station reaches 120 roubles. “It is scheduled to release two industrial plants with capacity of 15 and 25 kW and prepare the technology for small-scale production by the early summer. The factory will produce 5 to 15 such plants per month. The cost of one 15 kW gas-generator plant will not exceed 600,000 rubles” – the statement says.
