NICA Collider to Help Create Conditions Similar to Neutron Stars
April 15, 2016 12:33

Construction of the collider is planned to be completed in the second quarter 2019. The first stage of putting the collider into operation is planned in the end of 2019.
The NICA collider will make it possible to create the conditions, which are present in neutron and quark stars, as well as "other exotic objects". Vladimir Fortov, the president of the Russian Academy of Sciences has reported to journalists about it at the ceremony of laying the foundation stone for the buidling complex of the Russian superconducting collider.
"The collider NICA will give us unique and very valuable information on behavior of substance in the field of ultrahigh energies in the state of the so-called quark-gluon plasma, and this will enable us to create the conditions which are present in neutron stars, quark stars and other exotic objects, which expand our picture of the world we are living in ", - he explained.
The construction is planned to be completed in the second quarter of 2019. The initial stage of starting the collider, not yet at full power, is planned for the end of 2019. The installation will start working to the full extent in 2023.
NICA Collider is one of six megascience projects that are presently being implemented in Russia. These megascience projects surely assume international cooperation. Their scientific programs are aimed at essential breakthroughs in fundamental science. Within the NICA project Russia is cooperating with scientific organizations of 24 countries.
