Russian Virtual Polygon
April 3, 2016 12:19

Russia will have its own virtual polygon – a portal where companies will be able to simulate the scenarios of behavior and test unmanned vehicles. This is stated in the message brought by one of the project developers from Russian IT company Cognitive Technologies.

The consortium is also presented by universities such as NITU “MISiS” and MPTI and the special economic zone “Innopolis”.

The virtual polygon is a portal where developers can simulate difficult road situations for unmanned vehicles starting from weather difficulties tocar crashes, said Olga Usakova, Cognitive Technologies president in an interview to RBK. For example, the portal will give the opportunity to test a car’s behavior during situations when it is impossible to avoid troubles. The AI of the vehicle must decide what to sacrifice.

The project is invested by “KAMA-Autorobot” – a shared enterprise of Cognitive Technologies and KAMAZ and different car manufacturers from Korea and Japan. Usakova did not reveal their names. The overall sum of investment in the period of two years will be up to 150 million rubles, said the president of Cognitive Technologies. According to her, the company has already invested around 30 million rubles into the project.
