1920—Vladimir Vengerov, Soviet film director, is born.
Vladimir Vengerov is the famed director of such Soviet films as Two Captains, Cutlass, and The Living Corpse.

1917—The first Russian nature reserve is established.
Starting 1997 this day is celebrated as The Nature Reserve Day.
