1990—The President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev, author and leader of “perestroika”, is awarded the Peace Nobel Prize “for his leading role in the peace process which today characterizes important parts of the international community".

1908—This day is considered to be the birthday of Russian cinema.
The first Russian movie Stenka Razin directed by V.Romashkov is released.
