New Geodetic Satellite to Be Tested

Russian engineers started electric testing of a new geodetic satellite Geo-IK-2.
The tests are part of final assembly and integration of the space vehicle, during which all onboard facilities and systems will be tested. Engineers from France, who developed and built one of key components of the satellite altimeter Sadko, already arrived to Russia in order to help Russian colleagues to test and install the device.
Geo-IK-2 is a Russian satellite system, consisting of two space vehicles, aimed at performing geodetic surveys: measuring parameters of Earths gravity field, creating a highly accurate geodetic network in geocentric coordinate system, finding out the direction continental plateaus move, collecting information about tides, Earths rotation speed and poles coordinates.
The satellite is scheduled for launch in 2010.
