Guests from Space Displayed in St Petersburg

Inzhenerniy Dom, a museum of the Petropavlovskaya fortress of St. Petersburg, now displays a range of small and large meteorites.

The exhibition welcomes visitors till end of June 2010. Displayed items include about 50 meteorites of various sizes, which were found all over the world. Some items weigh tens of kilograms.

Displayed meteorites mainly arrived to our planet from the asteroid belt. However, some of them are parts of the Moon, and one is a visitor from Mars. Meteorites consist of various materials – from iron to natural glass.

Every day the Earth faces tens of tons of meteoritic matter.
