Valentina Matvienko, governor of St. Petersburg has offered to Julia Munutina, leader of Zhivoy Gorog movement for saving cultural heritage of St. Petersburg to take up a post of vice-president Committee on State Control Use and Protection of Historical and Cultural Landmarks.
Her movement of Zhivoy Gorod (www.save-spb.ru) is well-known by its war against constructing of Okhta-Centre sky-scraper (Gazprom business centre) in the historical centre of St. Petersburg.
Matvienko artuculated her offer yet on the November, 10, but earlier than today this information was known according to information provided by oppositionists.
Julia Minutina works as a school teacher and she said that she won't be able to set to her new work until this schoolyear fihishes. She has not yet made a final desision so hasn't discussed details of her new job with a governor.
It is a reminder that members of Zhivoy Gorog are protesting against construction of Okhta-Centre, which would spoil the historical sights of the city. UNESCO has the same opinion and would exclude St. Petersburg from its World Heritage List, if Okhta-Centre is constructed.
