Russian engineers are ready to develop a system for satellite monitoring of Earth’s ionosphere in order to detect earthquake precursors.
Ionosphere is to be monitored by a cluster of nanosatellites. To date scientists are unable to give short-term forecasts for earthquakes, however, a number of signs can indicate seismic movements, and one of these signs is change in ionosphere. Ionosphere is upper atmospheric layer, strongly ionized by ultraviolet and X-ray solar radiation and cosmic rays.
Ionosphere earthquake precursors in specific places can indicate future earthquake in this site. Nanosatellites can monitor ionosphere and make all terrestrial facilities for observing ionosphere changes unnecessary.
