Fishermen Find Over Kilo of Sarmatian Gold

Two young men have recently visited the Ministry of Culture of the Astrakhan Region to hand in the precious find they had discovered when fishing on the River Bakhtemir near Troitsky Village of Ikryaninsky District.
They fished out two ancient gold ornaments a grivna (neckband) and a bracelet from a rich burial ground of the Sarmatians dated back to the 4th century B.C. 5th centuries A.C. The total weight of gold jewelry is about 1150 gram.
As the lucky fishermen explained, they had seen the gold flashing in the shoal: part of an unusual object stuck out from the riverbed under the water no more than five centimeters deep. It did not take much effort to take the artifact out. As a matter of fact there turned to be two artifacts together: a spiral-twisted bracelet, its open ends decorated with griffin heads, and the same style grivna with a decoration in the shape of a cat-like animal lying with its paws turned in.
In the area of the find the Bakhtemir River undermined the northern part of a mound and, evidently, destroyed an ancient burial place.
