Olympic Construction in Sochi Threatens Ecological Disaster

Russian blogger Vasily Filippov has posted on the Internet photos and videos from the place of sewage pollution of the river Dzyhra its storage reservoir.

According to dwellers of Ahshtyr Settlement (Adler Disctrict of Sochi), pollution started about a week ago and resulted in killing all the fish in the reservoir. It should be noted that before the beginning of the Olympic building development the river was part of the especially protected zone of the Sochi National Park.

The water reservoir that used to be a favourite vacation spot of local community has been filled with dark-grey swill and reminds a catch basin now the blogger says.

The reason for the ecological accident is the drilling waste, which has been being dumped in riverheads.

By now the polluted water has reached Mzymta River - the basic waterway of Sochi. It shows once again that in pursuit of the Olympic construction schedule builders and officials do not care about preservation of nature and health of local residents. It means that entire Olympic city might soon turn into the zone of ecological disaster, - Vasily Filippov sums up.
