Russia and Italy to Build a Tokamak

Italian minister of science and education plans to visit Russia soon and discuss the Ignitor project.
The Ignitor project was born in 2004, when Russian and Italian researchers decided to build a tokamak with powerful magnetic field in Russia. Last year a memorandum of intentions has been signed with Italy to develop a project and Russia to host a reactor.
The Ignitor reactor is an innovative project in the field of controlled thermonuclear fusion, being further development of a tokamak concept. A tokamak is a doughnut-like chamber using a magnetic field to confine a plasma in the shape of a torus. Researchers expect new reactor to help solve problems of thermonuclear energy.
