Rosneft, Russian state oil company, is going to create a joint venture with Japan to fund oil exploration in Siberia.
On the 26 of May Rosneft will discuss with Japanese Agency for Natural Resources and Energy 11 oil and gas licenses in Siberia and three in the Magadan region. According to Eduard Hudaynatov, president of Rosneft, reserves in these fields are estimated at more than 2 billion tons of oil and 1,5 trillion cubic meters of natural gas. In addition, the total potential of oil and gas reserves of Russia is about 56,5 billion tons.
According to San Francisco Chronicle, "Japan may consider participating in a plan to build an oil- product pipeline from Rosneft's Komsomolsk refinery to the De Kastri port on the Pacific coast in exchange for stakes in oil production projects".
