Red arrow train celebrates jubilee

 It has been running between two Russian capitals for 80 years. The most known Russian train Red Arrow (Moscow-St. Petersburg) celebrates its jubilee. Today, at 7.55 MSK the railwaymen veterans met at Moskovsky Railway Station of St. Petersburg. They welcomed train N2 arriving with orchestra and gifts.


      

Red Arrow in the Soviet time symbolized innovations and was associated high status of its passengers. It was Red Arrow train, where first two-berth compartments in Russia appeared. Red Arrow was the first train, equipped with telephone. Red Arrow has never come late. The service was stopped during World War II when the fascists came close to Leningrad region. After 900-days Siege of Leningrad was lifter, Red Arrow resumed its every day trips.


      

Branded red color of Red Arrow cars appeared about 50 years ago. Nowadays, Red Arrow is still a brand nevermind Sapsan and other high-speed trains make 650 kilometers more rapidly that in 8 hours. It is ridiculous, but amount of Red Arrow's passengers has not decreased with launching of Sapsan. On Fridays the red trains are still lengthened till 18 cars.


      

In honor of the 75th anniversary of the train, a special subway train called "Red Arrow--75 years" was launched in 2006 on the Moscow Metro. On 29 March 2010 the subway train was bombed in the terrorist attack at the Lubyanka station. As of June 2010 the subway train has been repaired and relaunched.
