Russian engineers combined three modern technologies in order to make precise measurements for building 3D maps of railways.
Mentioned technologies are: satellite observations, laser scanning, and gyroscopic technique. All this embedded into one system allows making precise measurements of geometric parameters of rail ways. Existing scanners are able to process only 1 km of railways per day, and new system has increased capacity of 15 km per day.
Moreover, new measuring system not only provides highly detailed elaboration and precision measurements, but also is essential for building 3D maps of rail ways for keeping them in good order.
