Volcanologists from Sakhalin and Kamchatka travel to the Kuril islands in order to learn more about history of caldera volcano eruptions.
Young Russian researchers decided to spend 1.5 months studying geological history of the Kuril islands development, changes in their structure and geothermal activity, as well as finding traces of catastrophes, caused by volcanic eruptions.
Research facilities include an inflatable boat for traveling to islands, an echo sounder for underwater survey of lava flows, which entered the sea, and a thermal imager and high-precision thermometers for monitoring active volcanoes.
