Golden Ring city Novgorod the Great is carrying out a project designed to draw the people's attention to local museums. Since July,1, entrance to one of Novgorod numerous museums will be free on Fridays.

      The first museum to open its doors for free on Friday (July, 1) will be the Novgorod Museum of Fine Arts. Next Friday it will be the main museum of Novgorod cituated within the Novgorod Kremlin, in the building of old Public Office. Exposition of this museum is famous for archeological artefacts and gloroius collection of icons.

      On July, 12th century Nativity of the Virgin cathedral of Antoniev closter with its famous tower and fragments of wall painting.

      On July, 22 Museum center for children will be open for free.

      On July, 30 it will be Vorotnaya Tower of Gostiny Dvor. Here you can see metal art works of 11-19th centuries.

      On August, 5 12th century Nikolsky cathedral will be available for visits. Thre are early frescoes depicting the Last Judgement and historical exhibition in it.

      On August 12, the church of St. George-on-the-market-place will be opened for free.

      On August, 19 it will be Transfiguration chuch in the Ilyina Street, jewel in the crown of Novgorod medieval architecture and painting. It was built in 1374 and painted in 1378 by an outstanding byzantine artist Thephanes the Greek. It is the only one saved church wallpaintings of whichwere painted undoutebly by Theophanes.

      On August, 26, Znamensky sobor situated on the opposite cite of Ilyina street will be free.
