Russian researchers believe that our country can become a member of ESRF (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility) in year or two.
ESRF, open in 1988, is an international scientific institution with 18 member countries. Researchers from member states are permitted to conduct experiments on a modern synchrotron radiation source, which is an essential tool, when studying structure of matter for nanotechnologies.
Yesterday ESRF and Kurchatov Research Institute have signed an agreement on partnership, which will allow Russian scientists to perform experiments in the centre under the same conditions as European ones. Russia is soon expected to become full member state of the programme.
ESRF, located in French city of Grenoble, hosts the most powerful source of synchrotron radiation in Europe. Synchrotron radiation appears, when charged particles are decelerated or deviated by means of magnetic field.
