Archeologists Protest against Site Development round Veliky Novgorod

Novgorod archeologists have walked out of the Cultural Heritage Committee in protest against site development in historical area of Veliky Novgorod.

The housing development is conducted round Jurevsky Highway, in the site of the legendary Perynsky Monastery, St. George Monastery, and the Wooden Architecture Museum “Vitoslavlitsy”.

The unique site is actually already being built up, though the plans had not been discussed with anybody. All the procedures of decision-making were broken. We were given one month to find arguments in favor of the preservation of this site. We plan to appeal to the Culture Ministry, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and UNESCO”, - the head of the Archaeological Research Center Sergey Troyanovsky asserted.
