Today a training sail boat “Pallada”, which belongs to Far East State Technical Fishery University, leaves Vladivostok and heads for the Pacific ocean.
The sailing is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s mission to space and to 270th anniversary of discovering the land, later known as Alaska.
The expedition will sail along North America coast, where lands were discovered and explored by Russian sailors and travelers in the middle of 17th century. The ship will enter seaports of USA, Canada and Japan.
Except other things, the expedition is aimed at training its crew to sail in oceanic conditions, university authorities say.
