Arkhangelskoye Memorial Estate Reserve in Danger of Destruction
Arkhangelskoye Memorial Estate

Over the last 10 years the protective zone of the Arkhangelskoye Memorial Estate near Moscow has decreased 10 times, with building conducted everywhere, the cochairman of the reserve’s board of guardians Oleg Matveyev reports.

As he says, in spring this year the Arbitration Court of the Moscow Region recognized lawful the lease contract of the estate park round the theater built in the estate by Prince Nikolay Yusupov in 1819. According to these contracts, building, trenching and road construction is permitted in the park.

Communications and electric mains are laid in the park. In recent years 950 trees have been cut in the Arkhangelskoye Reserve.

The coordinator of Arkhnadzor Movement Konstantin Mikhaylov believes the Arkhangelskoye Museum Reserve can be preserved in case if its area is declared a part of the national project.
