Georgian authorities started issuing entrance visas to Russians at the only official border crossing point Dariali –Verhniy Lars at the border of the two countries.
“This decision is a continuation of Georgian visa policy, which sees its goal in maximizing facilitation of traveling with touristic, business, medical and other humanitarian purposes and doing it with minimum financial expenses and in short terms for every citizen”, comments Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The border crossing point was closed by initiative of the Russian side after the conflict in 2008. It was reopened in March 2010. Though Georgian visas were not issued at the point.
So far one could get a Georgian visa either at the Swiss embassy in Moscow, which represents Georgian interests in Russia or at Tbilisi airport at arrival.
