British consulate in Russia is failing to issue visas to Russian tourists within scheduled two weeks. The consulate says the highly rising number of applications has caused the problem.
The tourists who didn’t manage to get their visas in time have to cancel their paid trips, informs Russian Tour Operators Association.
The British Embassy says that the number of Russians willing to visit Britain has grown considerably recently. The Embassy has taken some measures to provide issuing visas in time. The working hours of visa centers in Russia have been prolonged for two hours. The number of staff who receive applications has been increased as well.
According to the British statistics about 169 thousand of Russians visited Britain in 2010. They spent there 1672 nights and spent about 191 million GBP (about 307 million USD).
