Archeologists have dug out an ancient fortress at the industrial site of the production enterprise “Mayak” in Ozersk town of the Chelyabinsk Region.
Members of the Ozersk archeological expedition accompanied by employees of the enterprise have carried out prospecting works in the eastern part of Lake Kyzyltash. In this place a fortress was constructed in the 18th century. For almost three summer months of 1736 the military settlement was a place of stay of Vasily Tatischev.
All constructions inside the fortified walls were of an exclusively military character. As a matter of fact, the Kyzyltash Fortress was a fortified field army base.
During the prospecting archeologists found unique historical artifacts, such as a head of a cavalry lance, a handpick (a tool for earthen works), items of Cossack household and kitchen utensils. They also carried out the initial cycle of geodetic works, on the basis of which experts will establish the current condition of the fortress.
