Europe's largest archaeological excavation Troicky in Veliky Novgorod is free to visit. 

      From July, 14 to September, 15, every Thursday at 18.00, a free walking tour starts from the tourist information center "Krasnaya Izba". On their way to the Troicky excavation, tour participants will get a lot of information about the history of ancient Novgorod. 

      Archaeological research on the excavation Troicky started in 1973. From this year, there were found more than 20 urban estates of X-XV centuries, including the icon-painting workshop of Olisey Grechin.
