Russian astronomers will bring back to life projects, suspended during Soviet times.
Russian government will provide financial support for restoration and development of observatories in Cuba and Chile. Chilean project started in the USSR in the sixties of the previous century, when astronomers from Pulkovo observatory built an astrograph on Cerro El Roble mountain, located 70 kilometers away from Santyago, Chile. Chilean military takeover of 1973 made scientists leave the observatory.
Almost at the same time a radioastronomical facility was built in Havana, Cuba. Later the facility was expected to upgrade to National observatory of Cuba, however, collapse of the Soviet Union also destroyed the scientific collaboration.
