As much as the Russian landscape may fascinate you with its colours, it is important to bear in mind a few precautions - like, against the wildlife. And if you venture deep into the territory where wildlife abounds, make sure you are not on your own, and that you can protect yourself.
An incident that happened tonight in Kamchatka is exactly this: a bear attacked a tent where tourists slept and bit a woman on a shoulder. It is assumed that the bear was the one that together with its cubs has been feeding next to the camp over the last few days. Apparently, the bear was noticed attacking the cars. As a result, the government of Kamchatka advised the tourists to avoid this area for a time.
The previous incident of a bear attack on a human took place in Syktyvkar in the summer of 2010; that time the bear was frightened off by the man's resistance and the dogs. If you are travelling in Russia this year, check out these tips for surviving a bear attack.
