Flexible Wheels to Appear on Russian Railroads

Researchers from Omsk suggest a project for making Russian trains less noisy, reduce vibration and locomotive power.

Scientists developed a new design for a railway car wheel. New wheel consists of two parts, which can rotate independently. First part is a bearing disc, preventing a double wheel from leaving railways. Second is a load-bearing wheel. Such an improvement makes flexible wheel twice as effective than ordinary one.

Researchers believe that their development will help locomotives push more railway cars, and trains travel as fast as 150 km per hour without changes in railways themselves.
