Remains of unknown stone constructions have been found in Irkutsk in the course of planned works on a heating main.
Archeologists assume that those are remains of the base of the demolished Moscow Triumphal Arch.
The Moscow Triumphal Arch was constructed in Irkutsk back in 1813 in honor of the decade of the accession to the throne of Alexander I. By 1928 the Moscow Gate in the absence of timely restoration had decayed and so the arch was disassembled.
By the way, in 2009 the city authorities decided to restore the gate by the anniversary of Irkutsk in the framework of beautification of Angara River embankment.
