The world-famous Moscow Cats Theatre of Yuri Kuklachev will have an added architectural bonus to its premises in Kutuzovsky Prospekt. A 'feline temple' will be built there by 2012, and the Mayor of Moscow has already confirmed the financing of the project that will cost 50mln RUB.
The Cats Theatre is unique, although it does not consist of cats only - there are also dogs and people taking part in performances. The four human actors in the trouppe are all the Kuklachev family members; and "actors with a tail" listed on the website include over 30 cats and dogs of all colours and characters. The Cats Theatre currently holds performances every single day, due to a large influx of visitors to the capital. The trouppe fans come from countries, like Italy, France, Belgium, and particularly Japan where The Cats Theatre has toured many times.
Kuklachev says that he has been obsessed with an idea of a feline temple for some 20 years. Although the word "temple" is rather pompous and suggests a certain kind of religious behaviour, Yuri explains that this is merely a reverberation on the idea of adoration of a cat, not dissimilar to what we know had existed in Ancient Egypt. There is no creation of a cult place, rather of a place where different people and cats can mix together and appreciate each other.
The plan for the feline temple corresponds with the realisation on the part of the municipal government that there are not enough facilities for children in the city. Yet Kuklachev plans to go even further: special lessons in kindness will be taught at the temple. He firmly believes that good upbringing should walk one step ahead of good education, that love and kindness should be ahead of knowledge and information. In such case, Russia will have a good future.
