Yuri Kara to Create Biopic about Andrei Sakharov

Well-known film director Yuri Kara has announced his plans about making a film dedicated to Andrei Sakharov.

The director reported the news to the RIA Novosti news agency at the Odessa Film Festival.

“This year marks the 90th anniversary since the birth of Andrei Dmitrievich Sakharov, and so I want to tell about this person. In due time I contacted Yelena Bonner and some other people who were acquainted with Andrei Sakharov. For me he is Quixote of the 20th century, an absolutely honest person, though lots of people did not and do not believe that”, Yuri Kara said.

Now the project is in the egg - it still has neither the leads nor the producer. At the same time, according to Yuri Kara, the film scenario is ready, and overseas investors have shown interest in the project.

He has also mentioned that he gave the script to John Malkovich, who was present at the Odessa Film Festival, with the aim of inviting him to play the role of Andrei Sakharov in the biopic.
