Russia, Ukraine and Belarus is celebrating the day of Christening of Russia today. The festive events will be held mostly in Kiev.
Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill is to head liturgy in Kiev-Pecherskaya Laura. Traditionally thousands of people visit this place on this day, so the mass will take place in the open air on the Sobornaya Square.
This year his Holiness and Beatitude Patriarch-Catholics Iliya II of All Georgia participates in the events for the first time.
The celebrations on the high level first took place in Kiev in 2008, when 1020th anniversary of christening of prince Vladimir and his armed force in the Dnepr waters was marked. Prince Vladimir made Christianity Russia’s official religion in 988.
