The prefect of the Central Administrative District of Moscow Sergey Baidakov has assured that the much-spoken-of monument to Peter I towering over the city center will not be shifted.
“I am all against shifting the monument” – Mr. Baidakov declared.
Besides, the Central House of Artist located near the monument will not be brought down, but only restored.
Mr. Baidakov also mentioned that it would be wrong to set up a monument in Lubyanka Square to anybody other than Dzerzhinsky, whose monument was taken down in August, 1991 after the failure of the Gang of Eight and its coup.
Whoever the monument commemorates, it is history. Everything should remain just as our ancestors created, - prefect Baidakov said.
