Marat Safin

The Russian tennis player and former World No. 1 tennis player Marat Safin, who is taking part in primaries in Nizhny Novgorod Region, will strike to develop sport culture among Russians.

“I am not a politician, I can’t waste words. Initially primaries are created to talk to people and tell about oneself. If people feell you, they will vote for you. Everybody has problems, and the main thing not to accumulate them but to solve them. It is a new stage for me. And in this field I would like to reach the same highlights as in tennis”, said Safin in his interview.

According to the tennis player, in case he becomes a deputy of the State Duma he will make sport issue his priority.

“Judge the state of sport in Russia now. The result speaks for itself. What is the cause of it? It happens because sport is very expensive. There is no infrastructure neither for kids nor for grown ups,” said Marat.

The procedure of the primary election to select candidates to the deputies of the State Duma started on July 21. More than four thousand and a half people wish to get a place in the lower house of Parliament. The primaries will be held up to August 25 on more than 800 spots all over Russia.
