The First Russian Military Port Will Be Turned Into the Park With the Amphitheatre

American architectural bureau WorkAC is going to realize this project, being the winner of the beforeheld competition.


      

According to the idea, the promenade of the street park will have an extension inside of the historical buildings and will conncets all the constructions of the island that will turn into functional zones : art, design, eduacation, commercial infrastructure.


      

Companies from all over the world were taking part in the competition, in the end of the first stage the works of British bureau David Chipperfield Architects, Dutch workshop MVRDV, Russian Studio44 and American WorkAC were chosen. The selected ones were exhibited in Central Maritime-Military Museum in St. Petersburg. More than six thousand people visited this exhibition and most responses coincided with the opinion of the organisators.


      

Twelve milliard rubles will be spent for the project realisation. The sum will be granted by the company " New Holland Development " which belongs to Roman Abramovich.


      

New Holland is an artificial island in Admiralteysky region of St. Petersburg, surrounded by rivers Moika, Kryukov and Admiralteysky channels. It is the unique monument of industrial architecture of the early classicism.
