Astrakhan State Culture Preserve Museum opens the tourism rout named "The Generosity of Astrakhan lands", which will tell tourists about watermelon's cultivation. It is a very old sector of agriculture in south Russia. Russia is the world's seventh-largest producer of watermelons, and the Astrakhan kind remains among the best sorts.
The purpose of the new excursion is to introduce tourists to the history of watermelon's cultivation in the Lower Volga region, to the biological peculiarities of watermelons and to the work of breeding laboratories for selection and seed farming.
Within the excursion tourists will learn not only about watermelons, but about the whole Astrakhan region. In the route from Astrakhan to the Kamyzyak town, where the only Watermelon's Museum in Russia is situated, several stopovers for tourist' rest are provided. At the end of the excursion there will be a big stop in the recreation center in one of beauty spots of the region. And, of course, within the whole excursion, tourists will be able to eat as much famous Astrakhan watermelons as they want.
