Russia’s famous tennis star Vera Zvonareva has claimed to the second spot in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Rankings. She has shifted Kim Clijsters to third position as the Belgian failed to defend her points from last year at the tournament in Toronto due to injury.
Last week Clijsters and Zvonareva took part in the Toronto Tennis Tournament, where the Belgian tennis player finished her participation on the 2nd lap, losing too mush points. Zvonareva finished her participation on the 3rd lap. (1/8 final). Serena Williams won the Toronto Tournament and so was able to rise from 80th rank to 31st in the WTA raiting.
Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark continues her reign at the top, despite never having won a Grand Slam title.
It is a repeat of the Russian’s best-ever result in the WTA Rankings, with the 26-year-old Zvonareva already having been World Number.2 in October last year.
The only other Russian in the Top 10 is Maria Sharapova, who is now seventh after being surpassed by Na Li of China and Czech player, Petra Kvitova.
The new version of the rating was published at August 15, on the WTA official site.
