In September the rebuilt cable road will be opened in Elbrus region, so the next holiday season will be ready to welcome guests and downhill skiers. The president of Kabardino-Balkar Republic Arsen Kanokov have personally promised it in his last interview to Russian press.
According to his words, in recent few years it was done a great deal for the development of the tourism business in the region: the opening of new hotels and boarding houses, the building of new cable roads and development of the whole infrastructure.
Kanokov pointed out at fact that, after the imposition of the counter-terrorism regime in Elbrus region in February 2011, the majority of the tourists refused to leave the resort. "They didn't feel any undertone of hostility to them and they saw the reaction of the local poulation, so they made a decision to stay and continue their rest. But we still were much conserned about the people's protection, so we took measures and closed the resort for some time", he added.
After the improvement of the criminogenic situation in the region, the head of the Situation Room has made a decision to open most areas of Kabardino-Balkaria for tourism routs again. Though the Elbrus region is still closed, the officials say they will open it at the earliest possible date.
