North Caucasus places high hopes on the role a remake of the best-loved Soviet comedy may play in the region's tourist development. The region's powers are in talks with two Moscow film studios to produce a contemporary version of the famous Abduction in the Caucasus (1965) film by Leonid Gaidai.
The comedy, starring such Soviet actors as Georgi Vitsin, Yuri Nikulin, Evgeny Morgunov, Vladimir Etush, Alexander Demianenko, and Natalia Varlei, directed by Leonid Gaidai, tells the story of a young man who goes to Caucasus to gather local folklore. There he meets a young girl, "a sportswoman, a Komsomolka, and simply a beauty", and ends up rescuing her from the hot-blooded Caucasian guy who abducts the girl to make her his wife.
The director of North Caucasus Resorts company, Rostislav Murzagulov stressed the fact that the crew and cast will do their best to avoid platitudes in the remake, so as to not spoil the classical film. It is hoped, however, that the new version will help to attract tourists to the territory that is slowly recovering after years of military conflicts.
North Caucasus territories - Krasnodar Territory, the Republic of Karachat-Cherkessia, the Republic of Kabardino-Balkar - are famous among skiing fans. There is a full description of skiing resorts in North Caucasus here on our site. Earlier this year, Russia-InfoCentre has also reported about the plans of the French bank Caisse des Depots et Consignations to develop skiing facilities in Adygeya, Krasnodar, republics of Karachay-Cherkessia and Kabardino-Balkaria, North Ossetia, and Dagestan.
While plans are being drawn, here is a full Soviet film (with English subtitles!) from Mosfilm's own YouTube channel. Enjoy, and let us know if you like it!
