Bloggers have addressed open letters to jury members and winners of the Russian Booker award with the request to award Booker of Decade to Ruben David Gonzalez Gallego, who has recently got into an accident in Washington.
600 000 roubles – the monetary prize of the Booker of Decade – could help the known writer out.
The signatures collection is taking place in the blog of Yury Vasilyev (http://scottishkot.livejournal.com/848926.html), the editor of the radio Freedom’s web site.
On August, 16th the paralyzed writer, awarded the Russian Booker 2003 for his book White on Black fell down to the rails in the Washington tube and is presently recovering in hospital, where he has found himself with numerous fractures and craniocereberal traumas.
Ruben David Gonzalez Gallego (born in 1968), the Russian writer of Venezuelan-Spanish origin, has been paralyzed since his birth. Apart from his autobiographical novel White on Black he has written the book "I am Sitting Ashore" (2005) and a number of articles published in the Russian and Spanish press. He presently lives in Washington.
