Exhibition World Press Photo Opens in Petersburg

200 best works by photo journalists from every corner of the globe will be presented at the exhibition World Press Photo to open on Friday in the modern art center /Loft Project Etazhi/ in Petersburg.

As the organizers plan the photo exposition will reflect the brightest and the most impressive world events of the last year.

The pictures have been selected in the framework of one of the most prestigious competitions of photojournalism - World Press Photo Awards - which has been annually held in the Netherlands since 1955. In 2011 the jurors have gone through a record number of pictures – 108 059. All of them were taken in 2010.

5691 photographers from 125 countries have taken part in the competition.


      

The exposition of the best photos of the prestigious international competition afterwards tours around the world, attracting up to 3 million visitors every year. There are altogether 15 copies of this exhibition material. These days, along with Petersburg, the photos are displayed in Japan, Portugal and New Zealand. As for Russia, they have already been shown in Moscow, Kazan and Samara.
