In the framework of the XII International TV Film Forum in Yalta (a resort city in Ukraine) a monument to the founder of the Russian film industry and Yalta Film Studio Aleksandr Khanzhonkov has been unveiled.
The monument is set up next to the administrative building of the Yalta film Studio, at the crossroads of Botkinsky and Pushkin Streets.
Aleksandr Khanzhonkov (1877–1945) was a Russian entrepreneur, organizer of motion picture industry, producer, film director, script writer, one of the pioneers of Russian cinema, and the founder of the Yalta Film Studio. Russian cinema owes a whole range of major achievements in its development to the versatile talent of Khanzhonkov.
Khanzhonkov was the only one among big Russian filmmakers to establish in his studio a special Scientific department for making educational and ethnographic films, documentaries on agriculture, geography, zoology, botany, and medicine with participation of leading Russian experts.
