On Saturday, Russian boxer Alexander Povetkin won the title of world champion among super heavyweight boxers, according to the World Boxing Association.
He has beaten Ruslan Chagaev of Uzbekistan, wearing him down with combinations of upper cuts and jabs. After 12 rounds of the fight, Povetkin was declared the winner unanimously by all the referees. Now his unbeaten record is 22 wins with 15 knockouts.
Saturday's fight was for the WBA heavyweight belt that was vacant after it was won by Ukrainian Vladimir Klichko. Klichko had to renounce the title after becoming the association's super champion for beating Briton David Haye in July.
Povetkin is the fourth Russian who becomes the super heavyweight champion. Before him, the title was won by Sultan Ibragimov, Nikolai Valuyev and Oleg Maskayev. The Saturday's triumph may bring him a shot at the winner of the Vitali Klitshcko-Tomasz Adamek WBC title bout in Poland next month.
