On Tuesday Alla Bayanova, the Russian famous romance singer and People's Artist of Russia, has died of cancer in her 98th year in one Moscow's hospice.
Alla Bayanova was born in Kishinev (Moldova) in 1914. She began her career in USSR in 1973, when she had already been a famous singer. Her repertoire consisted of Russian and Gipsy romances. In 1989 Bayanova obtained Soviet citizenship and settled in Moscow. In 1993 she was awarded a Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation title, and in 1999 - a People's Artist of Russia title. In 2004 she sang in a concert to celebrate her 90th birthday. Her last work was in collaboration with Marc Almond on several duets.
About 20 disks with Bayanova's songs in Romanian and Russian languaged were issued, such as: "Fly, my song" ("Leti, moya pesnya", 1999), "Emerald" ("Izumrud", 1995), "Days are flying..." ("Dni Letyat", 1998), "The Best Songs of Different Years" (2000), "Goldfields of Romance" ("Zolotye Rossypi Romansa", 2001) and others.
Russian President Dmitry Medevedev has presented his condolences to Alla Bayanova's relatives and friend. He has made special mention of the singer's rare beauty voice and her unsurpassed skill in heartfelt singing of Russian songs.
