Novosibirsk officials are going to close a local cinema specializing on cinema classics and auteur films.
Among the reasons for liquidation of the cinema “Cinema” the property department mentions its “elitism” and criticizes “frivolous contents with erotic implications” as well as “perversion scenes of sexual character” in the films by Michelangelo Antonioni, Pier Pasolini and Peter Greenaway.
“For unprepared viewers they may seem shocking and incomprehensible” – the property department concludes.
According to the appendix ¹1 of the official document, these are the films Red Desert by Michelangelo Antonioni, Love Me If You Dare by Yann Samuell, The Pillow Book by Peter Greenaway, Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom by Pier Paolo Pasolini and other films screened in June, 2011 at the cinema “Cinema”.
“Some of the films due to sexual perversion scenes were repeatedly banned in European and Asian countries” – the document reads.
